Research

Division of Mechanics, Materials and Component Design

Our division focuses on three main research areas: Computational Mechanics, Engineering Materials, and Machine Elements.

Mechanics forms the foundation of mechanical engineering, providing models to describe the physical world. Our research investigates material and structural behavior under mechanical and thermal loads using continuum mechanics, molecular dynamics, and ab initio simulations. We also advance machine element design to reduce non-exhaust emissions from vehicle components wear and develop high-performance gear technologies for EVs. Materials drive innovation, and inspired by nature, we create new materials with advanced tools to shape the future of society.
